The Publicist Christina George

Is there love in publicity?

This is the question Climax: Book Three of The Publicist seems to ask. Or, a slew of questions: Can a publicist love another? Can a publicist love herself? And, is she loved by her authors?

By far, this book is the best of The Publicist series. It’s a long, long book. I was surprised by the length, but I was not displeased. There was a lot of story in this book and a lot of character growth. It made sense that this book was long, and there is no place in the middle of this book that would have worked to stop it and save the rest for a fourth book. It was one big complete story.

I was honestly surprised how involved this book was. George really dived in deep in this book, which is why I think I enjoyed it so much. Kate Mitchell, our Heroine, took quite a journey. Kate basically had to rediscover who she is and what she wants in her life. I loved following her as she made that discovery.

I was surprised how many twists and turns were in this book and George really made us, and Kate, work for her ultimate happiness. Climax is a great name for this book because it did feel like we reached the climax of Kate’s story.

All of the characters had a lot more depth in this book. George proved how well she knew these characters – she showed us their layers. I enjoyed seeing more sides of Kate and Mac and Nick and then a new, wonderful character Vivienne. I love Vivienne! I do look forward to seeing her in future books George has in store.

The only reason I didn’t give this book five stars is because I felt that it could have used a little more tightening. There were a few sentences and adverbs that were unnecessary that we could have done without, and the characters all “blinked” too darn much. Also, the dialogue formatting needed attention (use a period for action tags, not a comma, missing quotations).

Christina George really took us on a ride with Climax and it was enjoyable for the reader. It was emotional and exciting and fun and full of interesting twists, turns, and action. I thought Kate’s job as a publicist/publisher tied in well in this book. It made an impact on her life, which is important if it’s going to be a focus. I felt totally satisfied at the end of this book. The series is wrapped up well for me.

I definitely recommend book three of the Publicist series (and the entire series if you haven’t yet read it) to any chick-lit or romance lover. Or, anyone who loves reading about insider secrets (like the publishing industry in this case).
